Hello world. With every great beginning comes an even greater story of how it all came together, and we thought it would be fitting to share how BlueberryCMS developed from a conversation, into a reality.
It’s 1988, and three high school friends from Ocean City, Maryland bunk up at Frostburg State University; a graphic designer, an ROTC computer programmer, and a guy who believed he was Jim Morrison. We were one of the only dorm rooms on campus to have our own Apple computer, somewhat of a big deal at the time. Fast forward three decades, and in one way or another, these three guys ended up in business together.
After many years of consulting for large corporations and government entities, Keith Mason founded his own software development company. Since 2006, his team has developed enterprise software and content management systems for government agencies like NASA, The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate and even Her Majesty’s Land Registry in England. Keith created a web-based Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and Enterprise Document Management (EDM) software product suite that can be customized for complex solutions in the government, legal, medical, real estate and financial industries.
In 2007, Paul Starkey founded Sprout Creatives, a web design studio creating clean, user-friendly experiences to dramatically influence the way brands are perceived on the web and beyond. In 2010, Sprout Creatives became an Adobe Business Catalyst Premier Partner. After researching Content Management Systems (CMS) on the market, none could compare to the functionality and stability Adobe was providing at the time. Business Catalyst allowed us to develop custom features specifically designed to help restaurant, hotel and skilled tradesmen clients.
In 2012, Vincent Gisriel, a former television account executive and restaurant veteran, joined Sprout Creatives as a partner. They begin to develop long-term Internet marketing partnerships throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and United States. Their marketing strategies focus on increasing revenue for their clients not only through web, but all marketing components combined as a tactical approach.
In mid 2017, Keith’s company began work on their own Website Content Management (WCM) product suite from the ground up based on their existing platform. Then, in early 2018, Adobe announced End of Life for Business Catalyst around the same time they announced end of life for Adobe Muse and Keith moved back to Maryland, unrelated to the announcement of course. Adobe’s announcements left Sprout Creatives and similar agencies, with over 100,000 websites searching for a new home.
After a single conversation between the three, the decision was made to join forces and re-brand the new WCM that Keith’s team had already been working on. We went back to the drawing board and identified not only every feature that BC designers needed, but also the features of the products that web design and marketing agencies had to integrate with or use to do their work. We decided that if Adobe Business Catalyst and Muse users had to migrate, they may as well UPGRADE instead.
We launched version 1.0 of BlueberryCMS in 2019 and subsequently will release regular updates including new templates and upgrades with new features. While version 1.0 is already a significant upgrade to Adobe BC, we are very excited about the future plans we have for consistent enhancements.
